1723 Pattern Wood’s Hibernia Silver Farthing, PCGS Specimen-64 Secure Holder Martin 3.2-Bc.10, W-12500. Rarity-5.. The present Specimen strike of this Farthing has completely prooflike surfaces that are lightly toned in mottled silver iridescence. These silver Wood’s Hibernia issues are Very Scarce to Rare and seldom come to market in any grade, much less Choice Specimen-64 as offered here. In the immediate past other Farthings have realized as much as $15,275 though graded “just” MS-63. Once considered absolutely rare and nearly uncollectible, Breen reports a small hoard, formerly owned by the Wood family, was discovered and brought to the market by a prominent British dealer during the late 1950s.
