1854 $20 Kellogg Twenty Dollar PCGS AU53. Kellogg & Co. struck approximately 300,000 twenty dollar gold coins in 1854 and 1855, using dies that closely resembled those used for regular federal coinage, but with legends that reflected the issuing company and place of striking.
This specimen is tied with the PCGS AU50 example we placed with an avid collector last March as two of the most visually appealing examples we’ve ever held in our inventory. This AU53 displays that rich russet-gold with undertones of lightish green that is so wildly sought-after but truly found on only 10%-20% of examples found. It’s a true collector-grade and a stunning addition to any advanced cabinet of numismatics. PCGS has graded a mere 18 coins in AU53 out of a total of 132 in all grades.
