1867 $20 Liberty Double Eagle PCGS MS61. The 1867 $20 double eagle is Very Scarce to Rare in Mint State condition. From a limited mintage of only 251,015 coins, a mere 150 or more are uncirculated with a handful at the Choice MS63 grade level. The high-water mark for the issue is a NGC MS66 which sold at auction by Heritage in 2014 for $258,500.
There’s probably never been a better time than now to either start or continue your collection of a date run of $20 Liberty coins. If you’ve gone the advanced route and are seeking a mint state example from each year, this Philadelphia mint issue will be less expensive than it’s San Francisco counterpart in the same grade.
Certified by PCGS between March and November of 2005, this beauty still retains a great deal of it’s mint luster. We see several areas that have tiny contact marks, especially in the fields, which render this coin to the MS61 class instead of a higher state.
