BG- 504 Liberty Octagonal, Humbert Eagle reverse, $1 Dollar Gold 1854, PCGS MS61 Low Rarity-5. Minted by Frontier Deviercy. Interestingly, this type is illustrated on the front cover of Dye’s Gold and Silver Coin Chart Manual (1854 or 1855), valued at 98 cents as circulating money. Same obverse die, repolished to remove clash marks, lightly rusted; similar reverse but much neater eagle, CALIFORNIA GOLD 1854 above, * ONE DOL. * below. This type is Rare and we always love to have them for sale since the Humbert eagle motif is so popular. The present example is very well struck, has a mottled light ruby toning with even lighter violet highlights at the peripheries, and is bathed in a yellow-gold breaking through all high points.
