Macedonia, under Roman rule. First Meris. Silver Tetradrachm, ca. 167-148 BC. Amphipolis. Obverse: Macedonian shield with central boss depicting diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver at shoulder. Reverse: MAKEΔONΩN ΠPΩTHΣ, club; above, monogram; below, two monograms; all within oak-wreath; to left, thunderbolt. Really quite lovely with artist palette toning. NGC determined Strike and Surface to be As Struck, perfect 5 out of 5’s. Ex. Stacks, November 1946 auction sale of the Charles H. Deetz collection, lot 169.
